Sugar Valley Street Fair Lives!

Dear Sugar Valley Artists and Friends, Thank you for an amazing five years of spectacular and shocking entertainment. You have turned on thousands of people with a vision that can only be grown in the fertile soil of these city streets. I'm sure many of you are wondering about the future of Sugar Valley. Let me be the first to tell you that the show must -- and will! -- go on. When Sugar Valley first began, it was a very organic process of inviting artists and creating an art space in an awesome, high-traffic location made available by Castro Street Fair at no charge. Over time, Sugar Valley went from a one-time deal to a legitimate yearly event that grew beyond all our expectations. Organizing large events required much more structure and energy than one person could muster, and I feel that, in appreciation for all their support and goodwill, the leadership of Sugar Valley should go to Castro Street Fair. After some deep-fried thought, I have decided to step down as the Sugar Mama so that Sugar Valley can continue to grow, while benefiting from Castro Street Fair's community leadership and event organizing resources. Castro Street Fair has stated that they love Sugar Valley and want it to become an integral part of Castro Street Fair while remaining true to the non-commercial spirit of Sugar Valley. Talk of offering artist grants is being openly discussed, but many of the details are still being worked out at this writing. I have given the Castro Street Fair my blessing to continue Sugar Valley in 2008, including the use of the candy-licious name. They will continue to provide a free space for artists and support those efforts with grants that will keep this arts community thriving. I have faith in the seed we planted, that it is bigger than any one group of
people, that it has power way beyond the scope of my imagination. Shine on! Former Sugar Mama
